Activity templates

Automating a set of steps can save you massive time and squeeze out human error. Solve lets you do exactly that with something called Activity Templates.

An activity template is a set of activities listed on an existing contact, company or project blog that have been saved into a reusable template. With a single-click this saved copy AKA “template of activities” can then be inserted onto other contacts, companies, or project blog pages at any time. This saves you from recreating many activities manually every time you start a new initiative.

Activity templates are shared with other users on your team which will not only expand the benefits of time saving and fewer errors, but also spark “best practices”, constant refinement and automation.


Start with an open record and insert some activities. Any type of activity can be saved in a template, but tasklists and scheduled emails are perhaps the most common ones.

Save those activities as a template.


So now the template is saved. Next lets test it out by opening a new record and insert your brand new activity template.

Then voila, your same activities get inserted on the new record.

Updating and deleting

While you can work within the Template designer to create activity templates as well, its strongest use is letting you quickly view or edit an existing template. Access your Template designer by clicking on Arrange activity template > select Template designer > Open the template there.

You can edit your template and then save it as a new one by simply renaming it, or quickly update it by editing the chosen template and then exit the Template designer to automatically save your changes.

You can also delete unwanted templates. Just open the template you wish to discard in Template designer and click ‘Delete’ to remove the template from Solve.

Editing and deleting the template affects only the template activities which are saved “behind the scenes” and has no effect on activities previously inserted using the template.

In the same light, editing and deleting activities inserted using a template will neither affect the template itself, nor will it affect any other activities inserted with that template. It’s quite common to create a template that is somewhat universal to your needs, insert it on a page, and then add the minor changes to the tasks etc. required for the particular case you’re working on.

Time sensitive activities

Solve also has some activities that are time sensitive which behave in a special way when used in templates.

Since these activities are time sensitive, it only makes sense that activity templates take the time dimension into consideration. So here is how they work. When you include a time sensitive activity in a template, the “relative time/date” is saved rather than the “absolute time/date”.

Looking at an example

Suppose you create or update a template with a task which will be due in 7 days from that moment. Next time you insert that template, it will create a task due 7 days from when it was inserted.

The same principle applies to all time sensitive activities making them a great tool for designing workflows and lead nurturing campaigns.


As the Solve administrator you can set who can modify templates, who can only read the inserted templates, or who has no access to templates at all (they won’t know they exist). By default new users are granted view access. Over time your templates will become a work of art so we recommend you allow a single person to modify them and rest to simply admire them i.e read (insert) them.
